What is the meaning behind ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’?
The movie’s title ‘BHJ Kai’ has caused controversy in the past, and was the subject of a petition signed by more than 1,000 students at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University.
But the petition has now been withdrawn after it was found to have been “an offensive word and the name of a person who had committed heinous crime.”
The film was also criticised by some in the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the BJP’s state unit.
“If you want to use such a name, I suggest you have a look at ‘Bhagat Mata ki jai’, which is a derogatory word.
It has no connection with the BJP or any other party,” a student told NDTV.
The student said the word has been used to describe “people who have committed heinous crimes, who are involved in anti-social activities and so on”.
“It has no relation with the Congress or the BJP, it has nothing to do with caste, religion or religion, caste and religion,” the student said.
The petition was later withdrawn by the university.
The film was released in December last year and is set to be released on December 19.
The film’s director Rajiv Seth has previously admitted that the title has been taken from the novel by Harivansh Kumar, a fictionalised account of a Mumbai-based businessman who allegedly killed three young women, a gang of robbers and an innocent man, and hid the evidence in a temple.
